We recently had the pleasure of performing a Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning service on a customer's beautiful Toyota GR Yaris RS!

The service was carried out at the 2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting in Jibusaka Kogen Ski Resort (Aichi, Japan).

The GR Yaris RS retains the aggressive, wide-body styling of the GR Yaris but is engineered for daily drivability and accessible fun. The pairing of the Direct Shift-CVT (with 10-speed sport sequential shiftmatic) and the high-efficiency M15A-FKS engine creates a lightweight, incredibly smooth, and comfortable hot hatch experience.

Preventative Maintenance for Direct Injection Engines

This particular service was focused on long-term engine rejuvenation and preventative maintenance.

Since the M15A-FKS is a direct-injection engine, carbon buildup around the valves and injectors can eventually lead to performance degradation. To prevent future fuel system issues, we performed a dual-action cleanup by adding [FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER] directly into the fuel tank. This simultaneously flushes the entire fuel line and cleans the injector tips while the hydrogen cleaning is in progress.

The Service Process

We initiated the hydrogen gas injection at a conservative rate of 100 L/h. As the treatment progressed, we closely monitored the engine's real-time condition, gradually increasing the hydrogen volume to optimize the carbon removal process.

To ensure the [FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER] circulated thoroughly through the fuel lines, we blipped the throttle a few times. Checking the idle gauge, everything looked completely normal.

5 Minutes In: Placing a hand near the exhaust tip, we could already feel a slight hint of moisture. While the exhaust pressure was fine, there was a subtle pulsation (unevenness) in the exhaust flow. We continued our adjustments with the hydrogen injection volume, keeping a close eye on whether this symptom would improve.
10 Minutes In: Visible water vapor began to exit the exhaust tailpipe—a clear sign that the hydrogen was binding with the carbon deposits and burning them off.
25 Minutes In: A noticeable change occurred. The engine noise quieted down, and cabin vibrations were significantly reduced. At this point, we locked in the hydrogen flow rate to maintain this optimal cleaning state.
45 Minutes In: Testing the exhaust flow again, the initial pulsation we noted at the start of the service was completely gone. The exhaust gas was now flowing out much more smoothly. We revved the engine once more to check the idle response; the tachometer needle now dropped back to idle noticeably quicker and smoother than before the treatment.
50 Minutes In: The moisture at the exhaust tip began to dry up, signaling that the heavy lifting of the carbon removal process was reaching its final stages. We made final fine-tuning adjustments to the hydrogen levels.
60 Minutes In: After a full hour of treatment, we confirmed that the engine idle was perfectly stable, engine noise and vibrations were minimized, and the exhaust flow was entirely consistent.
