Volkswagen Golf R (CDL Engine) Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning Service Performed in Toyama
The current mileage is approximately 123,360 km. This machine is powered by Volkswagen's high-output CDL engine—a 1,984cc inline-4, DOHC 16-valve, turbocharged engine equipped with an intercooler. Factory specifications feature a maximum output of 256 ps (188 kW) at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 33.7 kg·m (330 N·m) at 2,400–5,200 rpm.
This is a serious high-performance hot hatch, combining a potent turbo engine with Volkswagen's signature 6-speed DSG (dual-clutch transmission) and advanced 4MOTION AWD system.
Like our previous session, this service was carried out during the "2026 Oyasumidokoro Hiiragi & Owara Circuit Event." The primary focus of this treatment was long-term
preventative maintenance and a deep engine refresh to support future longevity.
Looking at the engine bay, this Golf R is equipped with an aftermarket cold-air intake system that extends all the way down to the open section of the front bumper. Because of this custom layout, we carefully routed and secured the hydrogen gas injection hose directly through the bumper opening.
To ensure absolute safety and precision, we initiated the carbon cleaning process at a
baseline of 100 L/h. While closely monitoring the engine's live diagnostics and real-time behavior, we will gradually increase the hydrogen flow rate to optimize the decarbonization process.

■ 5 Minutes into the Service: Placing a hand near the exhaust tip, I can already feel a slight trace of moisture. The exhaust pressure feels a bit weak, and there is a noticeable pulsing wave in the exhaust flow. I blip the throttle once to check the tachometer (RPM gauge) behavior, and the needle responds normally with no immediate issues. We will continue to monitor the engine's response while gradually adjusting the hydrogen gas flow rate.
■ 10 Minutes into the Service: Water vapor (steam) has started blowing out from the exhaust tip. This is a positive sign that the hydrogen is actively bonding with carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber and turning into moisture.
■ 20 Minutes into the Service: The engine sound has smoothed out, and idle vibration has noticeably decreased. We will now lock in the current hydrogen flow rate to maintain this optimal decarbonization state.
■ 40 Minutes into the Service: Checking the exhaust tip again—the initial weakness in exhaust pressure and the uneven wave in the flow have been resolved. The exhaust is now breathing smoothly and consistently. Once again, I blip the throttle to check the tachometer. The RPM needle now drops back down to idle even more smoothly and fluidly than when we started the service. We continue the treatment while fine-tuning the hydrogen volume.
■ 50 Minutes into the Service: The moisture at the exhaust tip is beginning to dry up, indicating that the internal carbon buildup is clearing out. We maintain the service while making final adjustments to the hydrogen delivery.
■ 60 Minutes into the Service: After 60 minutes of precise adjustments, we confirmed that the engine idle, exhaust flow, sound, and vibration have all completely stabilized. With the internal engine refresh complete, we have concluded the service.

We received this incredible feedback from the owner after the service:
“Right after the service, just moving the car back to its parking spot, I could already feel how much lighter and more responsive the accelerator pedal felt!”
“I took it out on the track, and both the throttle response and the top-end power delivery have improved massively.”
“Through certain corners, the transformation was so intense that stepping on the gas actually felt a bit scary!”
Thank you so much! It is absolutely fantastic to hear that you could feel such a dramatic difference out on the track.
Carbon buildup hurts engine condition and overall performance far more than most people realize. By removing carbon from the intake, pistons, and especially the exhaust valves—while also breaking down sludge inside the exhaust system—this service significantly boosts exhaust efficiency.
When exhaust efficiency increases, the engine can draw in fresh air much more effectively. This dramatically improves combustion efficiency, making it easier for the engine to deliver its true power and torque.
Remember, this process doesn't involve adding any aftermarket tuning parts. It is purely a precision cleaning service designed to restore and unlock your engine's original, intended performance.
When you give your engine a proper refresh, your beloved car will reward you with an incredible drive!
