Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning on a Toyota GR Yaris G16E-GTS in Chiba

We recently had the pleasure of performing a Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning service on a customer's beautiful Toyota GR Yaris here in Chiba!
This particular GR Yaris has clocked around 44,300 kilometers (approx. 27,500 miles). Under the hood is Toyota’s legendary G16E-GTS engine—a 1,618cc in-line 3-cylinder intercooled turbo powerplant that pushes out an impressive 272 ps (200 kW) at 6,500 rpm and a massive 37.7 kg·m (370 N·m) of torque between 3,000 and 4,600 rpm.
As you know, this newly developed, compact, lightweight, high-spec power unit controls the advanced D-4ST (Direct & Port Fuel Injection System). It’s the exact reason why the GR Yaris is absolutely dominating motorsport scenes like the WRC and the All-Japan Rally Championship!
We actually performed this specific service on-site at the [2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting in Jibusaka Kogen Ski Resort]. The owner opted for this engine refresh to ensure the car stays in peak performance and maintains its longevity for years to come.
Before jumping in, we thoroughly checked and prepped the car—monitoring the engine sound, vibrations, and exhaust. Once everything was cleared, we began injecting the hydrogen gas. We started at a baseline of 100 L/h, closely monitoring the engine's behavior, and are now gradually increasing the hydrogen volume based on its real-time condition.

5 Minutes In: We placed a hand near the exhaust tip and could already feel a slight hint of moisture. Checking the exhaust pressure and flow, the pressure itself was solid, but there was a minor fluctuation (wave) in the exhaust flow. We gently blipped the throttle to check the response. Looking at the tachometer, we noticed a tiny wobble in the needle as the RPM dropped back down from 3,000 rpm to idle. We kept a close eye on these symptoms as we proceeded.
10 Minutes In: As we carefully fine-tuned the hydrogen injection volume while monitoring the engine's real-time condition, visible water vapor began to blow out from the exhaust tip.
25 Minutes In: The engine noise and vibrations noticeably started to quiet down. With the engine stabilizing beautifully, we locked in the hydrogen flow rate to maintain this optimal cleaning state.
45 Minutes In: Testing the exhaust flow by hand again, that slight fluctuation we noticed earlier was completely gone—the exhaust flow was now perfectly smooth. Time to blip the throttle once more to check the tachometer. The RPM drop was significantly improved, falling back down to idle smoothly and without any needle hesitation. We continued the treatment while making minor adjustments to the hydrogen levels.
55 Minutes In: The moisture coming from the exhaust tip began to dry up, signaling that the internal carbon-cleaning process was reaching its final stages.
60 Minutes In (Completion): After a full 60 minutes of precise hydrogen adjustment, we did a final inspection. The engine idle was rock-solid, the engine noise and vibrations were dramatically reduced, and the exhaust flow was completely stable. With all parameters looking perfect, we officially wrapped up the service!
