Nissan R33 Skyline GT-R V-spec (RB26DETT) Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning Service Performed in Ishikawa
The current mileage is approximately 55,400 km. This legendary machine is powered by Nissan's iconic RB26DETT engine—a 2,568cc water-cooled, inline-6, DOHC 24-valve, twin-turbo with an intercooler. Factory specifications feature a maximum output of 280 ps (206 kW) at 6,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 37.5 kg·m (367.7 N·m) at 4,400 rpm.
This particular service was carried out during the "2026 Oyasumidokoro Hiiragi & Owara Circuit Event." The main purpose of this treatment was a preventative engine refresh to ensure long-term reliability and peak performance.
Looking under the hood, this beast is heavily upgraded! It features an HKS V-CAM system, with comprehensive modifications done to the intake, exhaust, and ignition systems. The power output on this build is truly incredible.
To ensure maximum safety and precision, we started the hydrogen gas delivery at 100 L/h. While closely monitoring the engine's live diagnostics and behavior, we gradually increased the hydrogen flow rate to optimize the decarbonization process.

■ 5 Minutes into the Service: Placing a hand near the exhaust tip, I can already feel a slight trace of moisture. The exhaust pressure feels a bit weak, and there is a noticeable pulsing or uneven wave in the exhaust flow. To check the engine's behavior, I blip the throttle and monitor the tachometer (RPM gauge). When dropping back down to idle from 2,000 RPM, the needle fluctuates slightly. We will closely monitor whether these symptoms improve while gradually adjusting the hydrogen gas flow rate.
■ 10 Minutes into the Service: Water vapor (steam) has started blowing out from the exhaust tip. This is a clear sign that the hydrogen is successfully bonding with carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber and turning into moisture.
■ 25 Minutes into the Service: The engine note has smoothed out, and idle vibration has significantly decreased. We will hold the current hydrogen flow rate to maintain this optimal decarbonization state.
■ 45 Minutes into the Service: Checking the exhaust tip again—the initial weakness in exhaust pressure and the uneven wave in the flow have completely vanished. The exhaust is now flowing smoothly and consistently. Once again, I blip the throttle to check the tachometer. The RPM needle now drops smoothly without any of the fluctuations or shaking that were observed earlier when coming down from 2,000 RPM. We continue the service while fine-tuning the hydrogen volume.
■ 50 Minutes into the Service: The moisture coming from the exhaust tip is beginning to dry up, indicating that the internal carbon buildup is clearing out. We maintain the service while making final adjustments to the hydrogen delivery.
■ 60 Minutes into the Service: After an hour of precise adjustments, the RB26DETT engine has completely stabilized. The engine idle, exhaust flow, sound, and vibration are all perfectly smooth and steady. With the decarbonization complete, we have concluded the service.
