We recently had the pleasure of performing a Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning service for a customer's Toyota HiAce Wagon right here in Toyama Prefecture.

Engine: Toyota 1KZ-TE | 2,982cc Water-Cooled In-line 4-Cylinder SOHC Diesel Intercooler Turbo
Max Power: 130 ps (96 kW) @ 3,600 rpm
Max Torque: 33.8 kg·m (331.5 N·m) @ 2,000 rpm

This job came to us after the owner initially reached out via Instagram to inquire about our services. The main goal of this treatment is a complete engine refresh to support long-term reliability and preventative maintenance for years to come.

The Carbon Cleaning Process: We started the hydrogen gas injection at a conservative rate of 100 L/h. While closely monitoring the engine’s real-time condition and responses, we gradually and safely increased the hydrogen flow rate to maximize the cleaning efficiency.

5 Minutes into the Service: Placing a hand near the exhaust tailpipe reveals a slight trace of moisture. While the overall exhaust pressure is completely normal, there appears to be a subtle, irregular pulse or wave in the exhaust flow. To dig deeper, we blip the throttle to rev the engine and inspect the tachometer (RPM gauge). When dropping back down to idle from 2,000 RPM, the needle shows a slight fluctuation and roughness. We begin adjusting the hydrogen flow rate incrementally while keeping a close eye on the engine's response.
10 Minutes in: Visible water vapor starts exiting the exhaust tailpipe—a clear indicator that the hydrogen cleaning process is actively working inside the combustion chambers.
25 Minutes in: A noticeable reduction in both engine noise and cabin vibration becomes apparent. Having found a sweet spot, we lock in the current hydrogen flow rate to maintain this optimal cleaning state.
A Testament to Good Maintenance: Seeing how well this 1KZ-TE engine responds, we chatted with the owner and learned they regularly use high-quality fuel system additives. Consistent preventative maintenance makes a massive difference, and it really shows in the overall health of this engine!
45 Minutes in: Checking the exhaust tailpipe again, the minor flow fluctuation observed at the beginning has completely cleared up. The exhaust gas is now flowing out perfectly smooth. Testing the throttle once more to check the tachometer, the needle now drops effortlessly and smoothly past 2,000 RPM down to idle, with absolutely none of the initial rough fluctuation. We continue the treatment with fine-tuned adjustments to the hydrogen delivery.
50 Minutes in: The moisture at the exhaust tip is beginning to dry up, indicating that the bulk of the carbon deposits are being successfully burned off and evacuated. We push forward with the final stage of the service.
65 Minutes in: After 65 minutes of precise tuning, the engine has completely stabilized. Idle stability is perfect, engine noise and vibrations are significantly minimized, and the exhaust flow is consistent and clean. With these excellent results achieved, we officially completed the treatment.
