Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning Service for Mazda Demio Diesel (S5-DPTS Engine) in Ishikawa Prefecture

We recently welcomed a customer’s vehicle for a specialized maintenance service here in Ishikawa Prefecture!


Our mission this time: A full Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning service paired with a D-Pine Multi Cleaner treatment on a Mazda Demio Diesel (S5-DPTS engine).


Here are the specs and details of the vehicle:


  • Current Mileage: Approx. 105,700 km

  • Engine: Mazda SKYACTIV-D (S5-DPTS) – 1,498 cc, Water-cooled Inline 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve Turbo Diesel

  • Max Power output: $105 \text{ ps} \ (77 \text{ kW}) / 4,000 \text{ rpm}$

  • Max Torque: $25.5 \text{ kgf}\cdot\text{m} \ (250 \text{ N}\cdot\text{m}) / 1,500\text{–}2,500 \text{ rpm}$


Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D lineup is highly praised for its torque and efficiency, but like many modern diesels, they are prone to carbon buildup over time.


⚠️ The Problem: Engine Check Light (CEL) & DPF Clogging

The owner brought the car to us because the engine check light (CEL) had illuminated.

Although the dealer had previously reset the warning light, it turned back on almost immediately. The vehicle also had a history of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve replacement.

To address the potential DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) soot clogging and restore the engine’s breathability, we recommended a dual-action approach: Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning combined with D-Pine Multi Cleaner.


🔧 The Cleaning Process: Step-by-Step

1. Fuel Additive Injection

First, we carefully measured the specified amount of D-Pine Multi Cleaner (a premium fuel system additive designed to dissolve stubborn deposits) and poured it directly into the fuel tank.


2. Pre-Service Diagnostics & Setup

Before introducing the hydrogen gas, we conducted thorough checks of:

  • Engine noise level

  • Vibration levels

  • Exhaust emissions from the muffler


3. Gradual Hydrogen Gas Injection

With the baseline checks complete, we began injecting hydrogen gas into the air intake.

  • We started at a conservative flow rate of 100 L/h.

  • As we monitored the engine's real-time response, we gradually increased the hydrogen flow to safely and effectively break down the carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber and exhaust system.

🚗 [During-Service Impressions & Real-Time Changes]


To ensure the D-Pine Multi Cleaner quickly circulated through the fuel system, we revved the engine a few times.

During this initial check, we observed a slight flutter/hesitation in the tachometer needle as it dropped back down from 2,000 rpm. We connected our diagnostic OBD scanner, reset the Engine Check Light (CEL), and closely monitored the vehicle's parameters as the cleaning process began.

Here is how the S5-DPTS engine responded during the 60-minute hydrogen therapy:


  • 5 Minutes In: Holding a hand near the exhaust tailpipe, we could already feel noticeable moisture. However, the overall exhaust pressure felt slightly weak, and the airflow from the tailpipe was somewhat uneven and interrupted. We proceeded with the service, aiming to resolve these symptoms by carefully adjusting the hydrogen gas flow rate.

  • 10 Minutes In: Steam began rising from the exhaust pipe, showing that the hydrogen was actively binding with carbon deposits and turning them into water vapor.

  • 15 Minutes In: Water droplets started to form and accumulate at the edge of the exhaust outlet.

  • 20 Minutes In: A significant improvement in NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). Engine noise and vibrations noticeably decreased, settling into a much quieter idle. At this point, we locked in the optimal hydrogen flow rate to maintain this stable cleaning phase.

  • 45 Minutes In: We checked the tailpipe exhaust flow again. The weak pressure and uneven, interrupted exhaust flow observed at the start of the service were completely gone. The exhaust pressure felt strong and steady.

    We then blipped the throttle to check the instrument cluster. The needle flutter previously seen when dropping from 2,000 rpm had disappeared. The tachometer needle now returned to idle smoothly, and the throttle response felt much lighter and crisper.

  • 50 Minutes In: The moisture at the exhaust tip began to dry up, indicating that the bulk of the loose carbon buildup had been successfully purged.

  • 60 Minutes (Completion): After fine-tuning the hydrogen levels for the final stretch, the engine idle, sound, vibration, and exhaust flow were all perfectly stable. We concluded the cleaning session.


Throughout the entire 60-minute process, the engine check light did not turn back on.

We wrapped up by explaining how to use the remaining D-Pine Multi Cleaner and handed it over to the customer for their next fuel fill-ups.

As you can see from the image materials provided above, the D-PINE Multi Cleaner used in this service is specifically designed to target the weak points of modern clean diesel engines. It delivers exceptional preventative effects for the entire fuel line (including injectors), DPF, EGR, and EGR coolers.

While it comes with a slightly higher price tag, a single bottle contains enough capacity for two complete treatments in standard-sized passenger vehicles. Since we did not perform a post-service test drive on the road this time, we weren't able to get immediate driving impressions from the owner.

⚠️ Why SKYACTIV-D Owners Need to Worry About DPF & Injectors (Especially Over 70,000 km)


At our shop, we receive a high volume of inquiries and bookings for Mazda SKYACTIV-D engine maintenance.

We notice a huge spike in concerns—specifically regarding DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) soot buildup and fuel injector clogging—once these vehicles pass the 70,000 km mark.


The Reality of Modern Clean Diesel Engines

To meet strict emissions regulations, modern clean diesel vehicles are equipped with:
