Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning Performed on Toyota Prius (2ZR-FXE) in Ishikawa, Japan

We recently performed a Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning service on a Toyota Prius (2ZR-FXE engine) for a customer in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Current Mileage: Approx. 466,000 km (Ultra-High Mileage!)
Gasoline Engine: 2ZR-FXE / 1,797 cc In-line 4-cylinder DOHC Engine
(Max Output: 99 PS / 73 kW @ 5,200 rpm | Max Torque: 14.5 kg·m / 142 N·m @ 4,000 rpm)
Hybrid Motor: 1NM Electric Motor
(Max Output: 82 PS | Max Torque: 21.1 kg·m)
Given the impressive mileage on the odometer, this service was conducted as an essential engine refresh to support ongoing vehicle longevity and prevent future maintenance issues.
Simultaneous Fuel Line Treatment:
To prevent future fuel line and injector troubles, we also added FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER directly into the fuel tank. This cleans the entire fuel pathway from the lines all the way to the injector nozzles while the carbon cleaning is underway.
Toyota Hybrid Service Note:
Since Toyota Hybrid vehicles automatically shut down the engine once the high-voltage battery is charged during idling, we put the car into "Maintenance Mode" (Inspection Mode) to keep the engine running continuously throughout the service.
Service Procedure:
After completing initial inspection checks—including engine sound, physical vibration, idle state, and exhaust pressure—we began injecting hydrogen gas into the intake.
We started at an initial flow rate of 100 L/h and gradually increased the hydrogen intake volume while closely monitoring the engine's real-time condition.

In-Service Impressions & Observations ↓↓↓
To allow the FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER to circulate thoroughly through the fuel lines, we revved the accelerator a few times.
5 Minutes In: The exhaust gas began to feel slightly damp at the tailpipe. Checking the exhaust pressure by placing a hand near the muffler outlet showed that the pressure was relatively weak, with noticeable fluctuations (unsteadiness) in the exhaust flow. We continued the process while monitoring whether these symptoms would improve with treatment.
10 Minutes In: Visible water vapor started coming out of the muffler outlet.
20 Minutes In: Both engine operational noise and physical vibration visibly subsided and became quieter. At this point, we locked in the hydrogen injection rate.
25 Minutes In: Water droplets began dripping steadily from the muffler tip—a clear sign of improving combustion!
40 Minutes In: Rechecking the tailpipe output revealed that the initial weak pressure and flow fluctuation had cleared up, resulting in a smooth, continuous exhaust flow. We then resumed fine-tuning the hydrogen input volume.
55 Minutes In: Checking the muffler again, the exhaust gas felt dry, confirming that clean, efficient combustion was taking place in the combustion chambers.
60 Minutes In: After 60 minutes of controlled hydrogen treatment, we confirmed stable idling, reduced engine noise, and smooth exhaust discharge. We then concluded the hydrogen gas cleaning process.
Post-Service Mode Verification:
After finishing the treatment, we disengaged Maintenance Mode (Inspection Mode) and returned the vehicle to its standard operational mode to inspect overall engine state and hybrid system integration. The engine ran perfectly smoothly with no issues.
With all post-check steps completed, the service procedure was officially finalized!
