We recently performed a Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning service on a Toyota Noah Hybrid (2ZR-FXE engine) at Mr. Tireman in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Current Mileage: Approx. 149,870 km
Engine Specs: 2ZR-FXE / 1,797 cc Water-cooled In-line 4-cylinder DOHC Engine + 5JM Electric Motor
Max Output: 99 PS (73 kW) / 5,200 rpm
Max Torque: 14.5 kg·m (142 N·m) / 4,000 rpm
With the odometer approaching 150,000 km, this service was conducted as a preventive engine refresh to ensure long-term reliability and smooth performance.
Toyota Hybrid Service Note:
Because Toyota Hybrid vehicles automatically shut off the gasoline engine when idling, we switched the vehicle into "Maintenance Mode" (Inspection Mode) specifically for the duration of the cleaning process to keep the engine running continuously.
Service Procedure:
After completing initial inspection checks—including engine sound, vibration, idle status, and exhaust pressure—we began injecting hydrogen gas into the intake.
We started at an initial flow rate of 100 L/h and gradually increased the hydrogen intake volume while closely monitoring the engine's real-time condition.

In-Service Impressions & Observations ↓↓↓
5 Minutes In: A slightly damp exhaust gas began emitting from the tailpipe. Checking the exhaust pressure at the muffler outlet revealed that the pressure was somewhat weak, with a subtle fluctuation (unsteadiness) in the exhaust flow. We continued the process while monitoring whether these symptoms would improve.
10 Minutes In: Faint water vapor started coming out of the muffler outlet. We fine-tuned the hydrogen injection volume as we proceeded.
20 Minutes In: Engine operational noise and physical vibration noticeably began to settle down. At this point, we locked in the hydrogen flow rate.
40 Minutes In: We revved the accelerator a few times to inspect the engine response. Rechecking the muffler outlet confirmed that the initial weak exhaust pressure and flow unsteadiness had completely cleared up, resulting in a smooth and steady exhaust output. We then resumed adjusting the hydrogen input volume.
50 Minutes In: Checking the muffler outlet again, the exhaust gas felt dry, indicating that clean and optimized combustion was taking place inside the combustion chambers.
60 Minutes In: After 60 minutes of controlled hydrogen treatment, we confirmed perfectly stable idling, reduced engine noise, and smooth exhaust discharge. The cleaning service was successfully completed!
