We recently had the pleasure of performing a Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning service on a customer's incredible Toyota GR Yaris from Okayama Prefecture!
The Vehicle Specs
Current Odometer: Approx. 32,480 km
Engine: Toyota G16E-GTS (1,618cc Inline 3-Cylinder Intercooled Turbo)
Max Power: 272 ps (200 kW) @ 6,500 rpm
Max Torque: 37.7 kg·m (370 N·m) @ 3,000–4,600 rpm
This is Toyota’s proud, newly developed compact, lightweight, high-spec, and high-power engine. It features the advanced D-4ST (Direct & Port Fuel Injection System). When you think of the GR Yaris, you immediately think of its dominant performances in the WRC (World Rally Championship) and the All Japan Rally Championship!
On-Site Service at the 2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting
We performed this particular service on-site at the 【2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting in Jibusaka Kogen Ski Resort】. The owner decided to go with this engine refresh to ensure the car stays in peak condition and maintains its longevity for years to come.
The Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning Process
Before starting, we thoroughly checked and prepared the vehicle, monitoring the engine sound, vibrations, and exhaust output. Once everything was cleared, we began injecting the hydrogen gas.
We started at a baseline flow rate of 100 L/h, carefully monitoring the engine's condition as we gradually increased the hydrogen intake to maximize the cleaning efficiency.

5 Minutes In: Holding a hand near the exhaust tip, we can already feel a slight hint of moisture. We check the exhaust pressure and gas flow—everything is looking perfectly normal. We give the throttle a quick tap to check the engine response. The idle RPM gauge is steady, and all systems are stable. We begin gradually adjusting the hydrogen flow rate while closely monitoring the engine's reaction.
10 Minutes In: Visible water vapor (steam) begins to puff out from the exhaust tip. This is a great sign that the carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber are starting to break down and bind with the hydrogen.
20 Minutes In: A noticeable change occurs—the engine note becomes smoother, and the overall engine vibration is significantly reduced. With the engine responding beautifully, we lock in the hydrogen flow rate to maintain this optimal cleaning state.
45 Minutes In: Placing a hand near the exhaust again, the exhaust gas flow feels much smoother and less restricted than before. We rev the engine once more to check the idle gauge. The RPM needle now drops back down to idle much quicker and more smoothly compared to before the service. We continue the process while making fine adjustments to the hydrogen intake.
55 Minutes In: The moisture coming from the exhaust tip begins to dry up, indicating that the bulk of the internal carbon cleaning process is nearing completion. We keep fine-tuning the gas flow for the final stretch.
60 Minutes In (Completion): After a full 60-minute session, we conduct a final inspection. The engine idle is incredibly stable, the engine sound and vibrations are whisper-quiet, and the exhaust flow is perfectly consistent. The transformation is complete, and we successfully wrap up the service!
