Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning for Toyota GR Yaris (G16E-GTS) | Maintenance Report
We recently performed a professional Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning on a customer's Toyota GR Yaris in Niigata Prefecture.
The service took place at the prestigious "2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting in Jibusaka Kogen Ski Resort." As we know, the GR Yaris is a dominant force in the WRC and All Japan Rally Championship, making it a favorite among performance enthusiasts.
Vehicle Specifications:
Engine: Toyota G16E-GTS (1,618cc 3-cylinder Inline Intercooled Turbo)
Mileage: Approx. 53,160 km
Performance: 272 ps (200 kW) / 6,500 rpm | 37.7 kg·m (370 N·m) / 3,000–4,600 rpm
Key Tech: D-4ST (Direct & Port Injection System)
Service Details: Engine Refresh & Preventive Maintenance
To ensure long-term reliability for this high-spec, lightweight powerplant, we focused on a comprehensive engine refresh.
Given the nature of direct-injection engines, we also addressed potential fuel system issues. We used "FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER" to treat everything from the fuel lines to the injector tips. After adding the cleaner to the fuel tank, we conducted a thorough pre-check of the engine sound, vibration, and exhaust flow.
The Hydrogen Treatment Process
The hydrogen gas infusion started at a controlled rate of 100ml/h. As we monitored the engine's real-time response, we gradually increased the hydrogen flow to optimize the carbon removal process.

To ensure the "FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER" circulated thoroughly through the fuel lines, we performed several throttle blips. The idle gauge remained stable, showing no initial issues.
0–15 Minutes: Initial Signs of Change
5 Minutes in: We detected a slight moisture buildup at the exhaust tip. While the exhaust pressure was within the normal range, we noticed a minor inconsistency (surging) in the exhaust flow.
10 Minutes in: Visible water vapor began to exit the muffler, a classic sign that the internal carbon is being processed and released as moisture.
20–40 Minutes: Stabilization
20 Minutes in: A noticeable reduction in engine noise and vibration. The engine began to run much smoother. At this stage, we locked the hydrogen flow rate to maintain consistent cleaning efficiency.
45–60 Minutes: Results & Completion
45 Minutes in: The previously noted "weakness" in exhaust pressure has significantly improved. The slight turbulence in the exhaust flow has vanished, replaced by a smooth and steady stream.
Throttle Response Check: Upon blipping the throttle, the idle needle returned to its base position much more fluidly than before.
55 Minutes in: The moisture at the exhaust tip began to dry up, signaling that the primary cleaning phase was reaching its peak.
60 Minutes (Final): Idle stability, engine acoustics, vibration levels, and exhaust flow are all perfectly balanced. Service complete.
