Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning for Toyota GR Yaris (G16E-GTS) in Fukushima

We recently had the pleasure of performing a Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning service on a customer's incredible Toyota GR Yaris in Fukushima Prefecture!
This particular GR Yaris has only clocked around 7,930 km on the odometer. Under the hood sits Toyota’s legendary G16E-GTS engine—a 1,618cc in-line 3-cylinder intercooled turbo powerplant. Pushing out an impressive 272 hp (200 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 37.7 kg·m (370 N·m) of torque between 3,000 and 4,600 rpm, this is Toyota's pride and joy: a newly developed, compact, lightweight, and high-spec high-power machine.
Featuring the advanced D-4ST (Direct & Port Fuel Injection System), the GR Yaris is already a motorsport icon, dominating the WRC (World Rally Championship) and the All Japan Rally Championship!
Special Service at the 2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting
This specific service was conducted on-site at the "2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting in Jibusaka Kogen Ski Resort." The owner opted for this engine refresh as a preventative maintenance measure to ensure peak performance and longevity for the years to come.
Since this car is equipped with a premium EVENTURI carbon intake system, we carefully routed and secured the hydrogen injection hose through the front bumper intake duct. After meticulously checking the engine sound, vibrations, and exhaust emissions, we were ready to begin the hydrogen gas injection.
We started the process conservatively at 100 L/h, continuously monitoring the engine's condition while gradually increasing the hydrogen flow rate to safely lift away carbon deposits.

5 Minutes into the Service: Placing a hand near the exhaust tips, I could already feel a slight hint of moisture. I checked the exhaust pressure and flow—everything was perfectly normal. I gave the accelerator a light tap to check the idling gauge, and all systems were running smoothly. From here, we began gradually adjusting the hydrogen flow rate while monitoring the engine's reaction.
10 Minutes in: Visible water vapor started emitting from the exhaust tips—a clear sign that the hydrogen was doing its job, bonding with carbon deposits and cleaning the combustion chambers.
20 Minutes in: A noticeable change! The engine sound became quieter, and idle vibrations were significantly reduced. Satisfied with the progress, we locked in the hydrogen flow rate to maintain this optimal cleaning state.
45 Minutes in: Checking the exhaust tips again, the airflow felt remarkably smoother and more consistent. I blipped the throttle once more to check the tachometer—the RPM needle dropped back down to idle much quicker and smoother than before, indicating improved engine responsiveness. We continued the treatment while making minor adjustments to the hydrogen flow.
50 Minutes in: The moisture at the exhaust tips began to dry up, signaling that the heavy lifting of the carbon cleaning process was reaching its final stages. We continued monitoring and adjusting for the home stretch.
60 Minutes (Completion): After a full hour, we confirmed that the engine idle, exhaust note, and vibrations were completely stable and balanced. The transformation was clear, and the service was officially complete!

To be honest, since the odometer was still so low, we wondered if the change would be drastically noticeable. However, seeing how the engine tone and exhaust stabilized during the process, we felt confident you would feel the difference on the road!
The truth is, whenever an engine runs, carbon deposits inevitably start to build up. This carbon buildup negatively affects engine condition and overall performance much more than most people think.
By removing carbon from the intake, pistons, and especially the exhaust valves, as well as clearing out some of the soot inside the exhaust system, you significantly improve exhaust efficiency. When the exhaust flows better, the engine can pull in fresh air more effectively. This dramatically boosts combustion efficiency, making it easier for the engine to deliver its full power and torque!
