Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning for Toyota GR Yaris (G16E-GTS Engine) in Nagano

Customer's Car: Toyota GR Yaris (G16E-GTS) We recently performed a hydrogen gas carbon cleaning service on a customer's Toyota GR Yaris in Nagano Prefecture!

The vehicle's current mileage is approximately 55,590 km.

Under the hood is Toyota’s renowned G16E-GTS engine—a 1,618cc in-line 3-cylinder intercooled turbo engine. It puts out an impressive maximum output of 272 ps (200 kW) at 6,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 37.7 kg·m (370 N·m) at 3,000–4,600 rpm.

This is Toyota's pride and joy: a newly developed, compact, lightweight, high-spec, and high-power engine that controls both direct and port fuel injection systems via D-4ST technology. When you think of the GR Yaris, its incredible success in the WRC (World Rally Championship) and the All Japan Rally Championship instantly comes to mind!

We had the pleasure of performing this service at the [2026 GR Yaris Owners Meeting in Jibusaka Kogen Ski Resort]. This time, the owner chose our engine refresh service as a preventative maintenance measure to keep the car running in peak condition for years to come.

After completing initial checks and preparations—including monitoring engine sound, vibrations, and exhaust emissions—we began injecting the hydrogen gas. We started at a rate of 100 L/h, carefully monitoring the engine's condition while gradually increasing the hydrogen flow.

5 minutes into the service: Placing a hand near the exhaust tip, a slight trace of moisture can be felt. We checked the exhaust pressure and flow; while the pressure is perfectly fine, there is a slight pulsation (unevenness) in the exhaust flow. We revved the engine briefly to check the idling gauge, which shows no immediate issues. We will proceed with the carbon cleaning while monitoring these symptoms closely.

We began gradually adjusting the hydrogen injection volume, carefully checking the engine's response step by step.

10 minutes in: Water vapor has started visibly coming out of the exhaust tailpipe.

20 minutes in: We can already feel and hear a noticeable reduction in engine noise and vibration. The engine is smoothing out. At this point, we locked in the hydrogen injection rate to maintain this optimal cleaning state.

45 minutes in: Testing the exhaust tip again with a hand, the slight pulsation we noticed earlier is completely gone—the exhaust flow is now incredibly smooth! We revved the engine once more to check the idling gauge. The RPM needle now drops back down to idle much more smoothly and responsively than it did before the service. We will continue the treatment while fine-tuning the hydrogen levels.

50 minutes in: The moisture at the exhaust tip is beginning to dry up. We continue the process while keeping a close eye on the hydrogen adjustments.

60 minutes in (Final Check): After 60 minutes of precise hydrogen adjustment, we confirmed that the engine idle, sound, vibration, and exhaust flow have all stabilized perfectly. The engine feels completely refreshed.

With all parameters looking excellent, we successfully completed the service!
