We recently had the pleasure of performing a Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning service on a customer's Mazda Demio Diesel (S5-DPTS engine) here in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Vehicle Specifications & Current Mileage
Current Mileage: Approx. 93,800 km
Engine: Mazda SKYACTIV-D (S5-DPTS) / 1,498 cc, Water-cooled, Inline 4-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve Diesel Turbo
Max Power: 105 ps (77 kW) / 4,000 rpm
Max Torque: 25.5 kg·m (250 N·m) / 1,500–2,500 rpm
This vehicle is powered by Mazda’s highly acclaimed SKYACTIV diesel technology.
The Issue: DPF Light Flashing (Not the Check Engine Light)
The owner brought the car in because the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light had started flashing (note: this is different from the amber Check Engine Light). The customer requested an engine carbon cleaning as a proactive measure before the main Check Engine Light could trigger.
Important Note on DPF Issues & Treatment: When the DPF light is already flashing or fully illuminated, even a combination of Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning and a specialized additive like Deepine Multi Cleaner may not completely resolve the underlying issue. We explained to the customer that we could not guarantee a 100% fix without trying the service first. After receiving their full understanding and consent, we proceeded with the treatment.
The Treatment Process
Fuel Additive Injection: First, we carefully measured the required dosage of Deepine Multi Cleaner and added it directly to the fuel tank.
Pre-Service Inspection: We conducted a thorough pre-check of the engine sound, vibrations, and exhaust emissions to ensure everything was ready.
Hydrogen Gas Injection: We initiated the hydrogen gas flow at a baseline rate of 100 L/h. As the treatment progressed, we closely monitored the engine's behavior and gradually increased the hydrogen intake volume to maximize the cleaning efficiency.

【In-Service Impressions】 Monitoring the Results Minute-by-Minute
To ensure the Deepine Multi Cleaner circulated through the fuel system quickly, we revved the engine a few times. During this initial check, we noticed a slight flutter in the tachometer needle as it dropped back down from 3,000 rpm.
At the start of the service, the exhaust pressure felt somewhat weak, and there was a noticeable pulsing or unevenness in the exhaust flow. We proceeded with the Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning, closely adjusting the hydrogen delivery volume while monitoring whether these specific symptoms would improve.
The Cleaning Timeline & Engine Response:
5 Minutes In: Placed a hand near the tailpipe and began to feel a faint hint of moisture.
10 Minutes In: Visible water vapor (steam) started discharging from the exhaust pipe, a classic sign that the hydrogen is successfully bonding with carbon deposits.
15 Minutes In: Water droplets began accumulating around the exhaust tip.
20 Minutes In: A noticeable reduction in engine noise and vibrations. The engine started running much smoother. At this point, we locked in the optimal hydrogen input volume to maintain steady cleaning.
45 Minutes In: Testing the exhaust flow again revealed that the initial weakness in exhaust pressure was completely gone. The uneven, pulsating flow had stabilized into a smooth, continuous stream. The exhaust temperature had also risen, confirming that the internal carbon burn-off process was actively working.
Post-Treatment Verification (Stationary Check)
We revved the engine once more to check the tachometer. The needle flutter previously observed when dropping from 3,000 rpm was entirely resolved, and the RPMs returned to idle perfectly smoothly.
50 Minutes In: The moisture at the exhaust tip began to dry up, indicating the main combustion chamber cleaning was reaching completion.
60 Minutes In: After a full hour of treatment, we verified that the engine idle, exhaust flow, sound, and vibrations had all stabilized perfectly. The service was then brought to a successful close.
Before handing over the keys, we explained the proper usage of the remaining Deepine Multi Cleaner and gave it to the customer for their continued vehicle maintenance.
【Post-Service Review & Final Impressions】

Product Spotlight: Deepine Multi Cleaner
As shown in the image documentation above, the Deepine Multi Cleaner used in this service is highly effective at treating the most vulnerable components of clean diesel engines. It offers targeted deposit removal and protection for:
The entire fuel line (including the highly sensitive fuel injectors)
The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) system
The EGR valve and EGR cooler
While the initial price point of this premium additive is slightly high, a single bottle contains enough volume for two full treatments on standard passenger-sized vehicles. This makes it incredibly cost-effective in the long run by actively suppressing carbon buildup, avoiding DPF clogging, and preventing catastrophic engine trouble before it starts.
【Post-Service Review & Technical Insights】
As we did not perform a post-service test drive with the owner this time, we weren't able to gather their immediate driving impressions. However, we look forward to hearing their feedback the next time they visit our shop.
Why Mazda SKYACTIV-D Engines Need Carbon Cleaning
At e-BLUE, we receive a high volume of inquiries and bookings for Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engines. In particular, once these vehicles surpass the 70,000 km mark, owners frequently reach out to us expressing concerns about DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and fuel injector health.
Modern clean diesel engines are equipped with DPF systems to comply with strict emissions regulations. Furthermore, many recent models utilize EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) systems to improve fuel economy and reduce environmental impact. While effective for emissions, these systems inherently restrict exhaust efficiency, putting a significantly higher workload and thermal stress on the engine over time.
The Solution: Preventative Maintenance for Clean Diesels
To counteract this heavy carbon accumulation, our shop provides high-efficiency Hydrogen Gas Carbon Cleaning. This service removes carbon deposits directly from inside the combustion chamber, restoring proper combustion and exhaust efficiency. By optimizing the engine's initial burn, we prevent raw carbon (soot) from traveling downstream and clogging sensitive components.
For comprehensive protection, we highly recommend combining the hydrogen treatment with a specialized additive like Deepine Multi Cleaner. This dual-action approach targets:
The entire fuel line (including fuel injectors)
The DPF system
The EGR valve and intake tracts
⚠️ Don't Wait Until It's Too Late! Once the DPF warning light turns solid and the filter becomes completely clogged, the restorative effects of both Hydrogen Gas Cleaning and multi-cleaner additives drop drastically. Replacing or repairing a failed DPF, EGR system, or modern diesel injectors can lead to incredibly high repair bills.
Prolong the Life of Your Diesel Vehicle
Clean diesel vehicles offer fantastic fuel efficiency, robust torque that makes driving fun, and lower fuel costs than conventional gasoline—making them very friendly on your wallet. To enjoy these benefits long-term, regular preventative maintenance is absolutely vital. Show your car some love, and it will reward you with reliability!
At e-BLUE, we treat every single vehicle with the utmost care. We continuously monitor the unique condition of your engine throughout the service and adjust the treatment in real-time. This meticulous approach ensures maximum cleaning performance and noticeable results.
Thank you very much for choosing e-BLUE for your vehicle maintenance. We look forward to serving you again in the future!
